My most anticipated games of 2022

After all of the delays in 2021 we are hopefully going to see a lot of big name releases in 2022. I am also holding out hope that this year's E3 will be a return to the days of old and a bunch of big fall releases will be announced because currently the second half of the year is looking mighty slim.

1. Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster

Final Fantasy VI is easily at the top of my pile of shame. As an avid Final Fantasy fan it is unacceptable that I haven't played it. My only excuse is that I never owned a Super Nintendo but with a "pixel remaster" coming to Steam in February I can finally give it the chance it deserves.

2. Elden Ring

While I don't always agree with From Software's "git gud" game design, their combat systems have always been excellent. When you combine that with a truly open world like they seem to be doing in Elden Ring, it looks like we have a game that could be right up my alley.

3. God of War Ragnarök

While I still prefer the combat from the original God of War trilogy, the visuals and storytelling in God of War Ragnarök look absolutely top notch. I cannot wait to see what Kratos, Atreus, and Mímir get up to next.

4. Pokémon Legends: Arceus

It's a fully 3D Pokémon game in a pseudo open world where you can catch Pokémon without battling them. How could I not be excited about Pokémon Legends: Arceus?

5. Starfield

Anything from Bethesda Game Studios has so much potential so even though I'm not really buying the world of Starfield I'm still excited to jump in and see for myself.

6. Bayonetta 3

How the hell is Bayonetta 3 so high on this list? How does my lizard brain even believe this game is actually going to be released in 2022?

7. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

It's been a while since I have played a solid cooperative multiplayer game and I'm hoping Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be able to scratch that itch in 2022. At the very least the writing and voice acting look to be in my wheelhouse.

8. Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

"I'm here to kill Chaos."

"I only know one thing: I want to kill Chaos."

"We're here to kill Chaos."

I think in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin our goal is to kill Chaos.

9. Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp

There is a noticeable dearth of tactics games this year so I'm hoping Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp will be able to fill that void.

10. Slime Rancher 2

I did enjoy the gameplay of the original Slime Rancher for about 10 hours before it became a bit rote. Fingers crossed the developers have made some quality of life improvements in Slime Rancher 2.

11. System Shock

I never played the original System Shock so I am hoping to rectify that by playing the remake in 2022.

12. Baldur's Gate III

Baldur's Gate III is coming along really well but it still is an early access game and while I am crossing my fingers that it will be released in 2022 the pragmatic part of me says 2023 is much more likely.

13. Breath of the Wild 2

I know I ranted about Breath of the Wild in the past but at its core it is still a solid game, even if it is barely a Legend of Zelda one.

The untitled sequel will probably be even more enjoyable based on Nintendo's track record and maybe they'll even manage to squeeze in some Legend of Zelda style dungeons while they are at it.

14. Digimon Survive

Who am I kidding. Digimon Survive is never going to be released.
