Japan 2025: Day 13

The late nights were finally catching up and we didn't pull our lazy asses out of bed until 11am. After grabbing some coffee at our Blue Bottle we decided upon a chill day of sight seeing and made our way towards Mori Tower in the Roppongi district.

We had 2pm tickets for the Godzilla 70th Anniversary Art Exhibition but had some time to kill so we checked out another exhibition called MACHINE LOVE: Video Game, AI and Contemporary Art. I have absolutely nothing positive to say about this. It was one of those extremely pretentious and esoteric art galleries that makes me question if I am even capable of "understanding art". I'm sure there are deeper messages or something about how it is constructed that I "just don't get" but as a lay person I would not recommend you waste your money on this.

To cleanse our palette (both figuratively and literally) we found a cafe that had Godzilla themed food in collaboration with the exhibition. Top marks easily go to their Shin-Godzilla burger that had black buns spiked with black tortilla chips to resembles Godzilla's carapace. Unfortunately, this may have been the highlight of Godzilla related things we saw today as the 70th Anniversary Art Exhibition wasn't what we expected. Apparently the premise was for artists to give their interpretations or renditions of Godzilla which resulted in a whole lot of art that seemed tangibly related to it. But as I have admitted to previously, evidently I do not get art so take this opinion with a grain of salt.

Seeing as how we weren't high class art snobs we decided to return to our weeb roots and got reservations for Luida's Bar in Akihabara. Consider us simple but fruity drinks with plastic swords in them, dumplings shaped like slimes, and pizza mini-medals are what bring us joy.
