Anticipating what games are going to be released in 2026 is basically frivolous because everyone's release dates are still up in the air due to Grand Theft Auto VI. Dozens of games delayed themselves out of the later half of 2025 to make way for GTA VI and then Rockstar crapped on all of their dreams by also delaying into 2026. Based on the current release schedule, if Grand Theft Auto does get delayed, I'll bet the majority of Game of the Year candidates haven't even been shown let alone given a release date.

1. Grand Theft Auto VI

Last year I said that Grand Theft Auto VI would be delayed into 2026 and I was right and at this point I'd say it is a coin flip. Who knows what is going to happen as we approach next November.

2. 007 First Light

I'm not actually that exited about 007 First Light based on what I have seen so far. But I'm going to put my faith into IO Interactive and hope that they can again create something as fun and entertaining as their Hitman games.

3. Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2

I must become the Emperor's sword once more in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2.

4. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV

I am in the mood for a real-time strategy game so here's hoping Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV can deliver.

5. Dragon Quest VII Reimagined

We've entered the part of the list where games from this point on could slip through the cracks and enter my backlog. I do enjoy the Dragon Quest series but I don't know if I am currently in the mood for another old-school JRPG. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is going to be extremely well executed, I just don't think I'm down to grind for dozens of hours again.

6. Mewgenics

Mewgenics is a true dark horse because I've been interested in this game for over a decade now but who the fuck knows how it's going to turn out. It is described as a turn-based tactical roguelike revolving around breeding cats which sounds like it will hit all the parts of my lizard brain.

7. Tropico 7

It's been a while since I ruled as El Presidente of Tropic so who knows, maybe I'll step back into the role this year.

8. Pragmata

Pragmata has the potential to be an incredibly fun action adventure game, or completely flounder under its hokey premise. As I wrote this I found out that there actually is a demo out so I should definitely give that a shot before I consider buying.
