April 2024 Retrospective

To anyone who was paying close attention to my March 2023 goals they'll have noticed that I finally bought a house. I moved into it in April and as a result I did nothing but unpack, clean, and fix things for basically the entire month. I knew home ownership was going to be a pain but good lord it is even worse than I imagined. I'm honestly not even sure if I enjoy living here at the moment, but the potential of what I can do (and hopefully complete by the end of this year) is keeping me going.

So let's get this retrospective over with because I got a ton more chores to do.

The Good

Started reading Box Set 3 of the One Piece Manga

I have finally made it to the timeskip in the One Piece manga and I absolutely adored the chapters leading up to it. I still find it hard to believe that I only have read a little over half of all published chapters.

And I think after the Marineford Arc One Piece has surpassed Death Note as my favourite manga of all-time.

Watched Shogun

I've only watched the first four episodes of the 2024 adaption of Shogun but so far it has been fantastic. The sets are absolutely gorgeous and the acting is A+ but that is to be expected when the charismatic Hiroyuki Sanada is on screen.

Honourable Mentions

Finished reading The Will of the Many

I finished reading The Will of the Many and my enjoyment of it carried through right to the end. Last month I wrote that it felt like a very early Brandon Sanderson novel and I still stand by that. The world building was excellent but the characters did not captivate me like they normally do in a Sanderson novel. I found myself more interested in what why things were happening to them but not actually caring about the characters themselves. Until the very last page I still wanted to learn more about this world.

Now, for the rest of this paragraph I am going to give my opinion on the ending of the book. I am not going to say anything about the ending but just give my general feelings about it. So turn back now if you don't want to have anything spoiled. Last chance! I was not a fan of how the book ended because the it didn't really have an ending. It was the equivalent to Avengers: Infinity War where almost no questions are answered and you're just going to have to wait for the sequel. That is what the ending to The Will of the Many feels like to me. It didn't take away my enjoyment of the book but it left me feeling like it was unfinished.

Millennial Moron's YouTube Channel

I don't think I have linked to Millennial Moron's YouTube channel before but he is one of my best sources for news. He focuses on presenting just the facts in a bipartisan manner. He tells things how they are and it doesn't matter if it makes the Liberals or Conservatives look bad. What matters is how these political decisions affect Canadians regardless of their political affiliation.

In an era where almost every news story feels like rage-bait, Millennial Moron is a breath of fresh air.

The Bad

Homeownership

Sweet Zombie Jesus there is a lot of stuff you gotta do to maintain a home.
