Games of the Year 2022: Backlog

Surprisingly there aren't that many games that I missed playing in 2022. I know that there are some jewels on this list that I would have thoroughly enjoyed but I don't believe any of them would have challenged for game of the year. There is only a limited amount of time I can dedicate to games and I think I did a fairly admirable job in 2022.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn

I was really excited to play Tactics Ogre: Reborn but unfortunately I only had a certain amount of time for video games in November and that went to God of War Ragnarök and Pokémon Scarlet.

Slime Rancher 2

Slime Rancher 2 is the only game on this list from my most anticipated games of 2022 article and I am ashamed to say that I didn't realize it has been released into early access until I was writing this article.

Triangle Strategy

I own a copy of Triangle Strategy. It is literally sitting on my shelf, still in its shrink wrap. I wish I could remember why I didn't make time to play it.

Neon White

Neon White is probably at the top of my pile of shame because I had never heard about it until NoClip's documentary well after it's release.

It seems like a game right up my alley but I just let it slip by and with the influx of big releases in the final quarter of the year I just couldn't make time.

Two Point Campus

I didn't end up playing Two Point Campus because I had a bad experience with the end of Two Point Hospital. While I am positive that would enjoy the first 10 hours of playing it, I'm not sure sure I would enjoy what comes after.

High on Life

I am a huge fan of the Rick and Morty TV show and High on Life basically looks like Rick and Morty the game. You're either gonna love or bounce right off the humor and I think I'm gonna eat that low brow shit up.

Total War: Warhammer III

I have always wanted to try the Total War series and its latest release, Total War: Warhammer III, seemed like a perfect fit. Unfortunately my obsession with Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Elden Ring led me to completely forget about this game.

Marvel's Midnight Suns

It pains me to put Marvel's Midnight Suns on this list because if the game succeeds then it almost guarantees we will never see another XCOM game from Firaxis. But these developers are the reason that the XCOM franchise was revived in the first place so I feel like I owe it to them to at least give this game a shot.
